SplitBoard has no accounts and no ads. The board link is the key: only people with the link can see or change a board. We store the information you add to a board so it stays available to everyone with the link, and we keep the bare-minimum data needed to run the service. We never sell your data.
Who we are
SplitBoard (splitbillonline.com) is a free bill split calculator operated by the SplitBoard team. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
We only collect the information needed to run SplitBoard:
- Board data. Board name, currency, member names, expenses, and who paid — all provided by you and the people you share the link with.
- Technical data. Standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited, used to keep the service secure and working.
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, or payment details. There are no user accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and no profile to fill out.
The link is the key
Boards are private by design. Anyone who has the board link can view and add to the board, and anyone who doesn't cannot. Treat board links like a shared password: only share them with people who should see the board. If a link is shared beyond your group, anyone with it can access the board, so be careful where you post it.
How we use data
We use the data we collect for one purpose: to make SplitBoard work. That means storing boards and expenses so everyone with the link sees the same live picture, keeping the site secure, and fixing problems when they come up. We do not use board data for advertising, and we never sell or rent it to anyone.
Cookies and storage
SplitBoard does not use cookies for advertising or tracking. The service may use minimal local storage or session storage to keep the app working smoothly across page loads, and your browser sends standard technical data when you visit the site.
Sharing and third parties
We use hosting infrastructure to run the service, which may process technical data such as IP addresses and server logs on our behalf. These providers process data only to deliver the service and are bound by confidentiality. We do not otherwise share board data with third parties unless required by law or to protect our legal rights.
Data retention
Board data stays stored as long as the board exists and is being used. We may remove inactive boards over time to keep the service fast and tidy. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operations.
Your choices
Because there are no accounts, you control the data directly: you and the people with the link decide what to add, and you can stop using a board at any time. If you want a board removed or have questions about your data,contact us and we'll help.
Children's privacy
SplitBoard is a general-purpose bill split tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of SplitBoard after changes means you accept the updated policy.
